A fresh coat of paint is probably one of the best and cheapest ways to make your house look brand new. Even better than that, it’s so easy to do it yourself! While it might be better to pay a professional to paint the exterior of your house, painting a room or two on the inside for yourself is much more forgiving to first-timers, and might even do as much or more to improve the value of your home.
If you feel like you’re up to the task, here are just three tips we’d recommend:
- Go for a simple, neutral color. This is especially important if you’re planning to sell or rent your house. Believe it or not, some people will actually see a color they don’t like and immediately write off the entire property because of it.
- Get the good paint. While you may be DIY’ing this paint job to save money, it’s important not to cheap out on the paint. Quality paint will last longer, goes further, and is even easier to use.
- Use cloth drop cloths. You definitely should have something to protect your flooring and furniture, for obvious reasons. But plastic drop cloths (even though they may be cheaper) are easier to tear and can cause dropped paint to splash where you don’t want it.
